In March 1941, following an attempted Mutiny aboard the German Prison Ship MV Portland while at sea on her way to Bordeaux with POWs, a German Guard fired into the hold killing Civilian Frank Evans and Sailor Arthur Freeman, SS Afric Star. Peter Mulvany took a trip to Bordeaux April 2010 and visited their graves and left wreaths and the Union Flag in remembrance. Arthur Freeman has his war grave directly behind the grave of civilian Frank Evans.
